Cahill: Digging in

The Blues had our only reverse of the season at St James’s Park but, since then, have won consecutive matches against Sporting Lisbon, Hull City, Derby County and last night at Stoke City.
It was an impressive team display at the Britannia Stadium, with goals from John Terry and Cesc Fabregas securing victory, and Cahill felt we were worthy winners.
‘It’s a very difficult place to go, that’s been proved the last couple of times we’ve been there, and we expected what we got,’ said the Chelsea defender.
‘It was a tough, physical game, we had to fight all the way until the end but thankfully we did that and managed to win. We’re very pleased.
‘We felt we needed to start well and not give them too much confidence. The first goal gave us a platform early on to go from there.
‘In the second half Stoke came into the game a lot more but we managed to get the second goal which obviously killed the game.’
The result ensured the Blues will be top of the table at Christmas, with our next game at home to in-form West Ham United on Boxing Day.
‘We knew we needed a reaction after the Newcastle game and with Man City playing so well, getting results and breathing down our necks we know we have to keep our foot down,’ Cahill explained.
‘It’s fantastic to be top of the league at this stage but we know there’s plenty of hard work to come, we’ll enjoy our Christmas though.’
